The chemistry calculators handle the four quantities that appear in almost every lab calculation: amount of substance in moles, mass, concentration and volume. Once two of them are known, the rest follow from molar mass and the definition of molarity.
Each page also states its assumptions. The ideal gas law is exact only for point particles with no interactions, and pH treats activity as concentration, which holds for dilute solutions and drifts in strong brines.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between molarity and molality?
Molarity is moles per litre of solution and changes with temperature as the volume expands; molality is moles per kilogram of solvent and does not. Use molality for boiling and freezing point work, molarity for mixing solutions at room temperature.
Why are the answers not rounded to significant figures?
The calculators keep full precision so intermediate steps do not drift. Round only the final answer, to the figures justified by the least precise input — 0.01 mol/L carries one, so a pH derived from it belongs at one decimal place.
Can these tools handle buffers and titrations?
Only as a starting point. Buffers need the Henderson–Hasselbalch equation with pKa, and titrations need the stoichiometry at the equivalence point. The pH tool assumes a single acid or base dissolved in water.
