Two ways to read a season: the win rate, which says how often a team wins, and pace, which projects a partial season onto a full one. They answer different questions and are easy to confuse.
Win rate is exact for the games played. Pace is an extrapolation and assumes the current level continues — useful for a mid-season snapshot, misleading after a schedule change or an injury.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is a win rate different from a games-behind figure?
Win rate is a proportion of games played; games behind measures distance from a leader in a standings table. A .600 team can be ten games back in a long season.
Does pace account for remaining opponents?
No. It assumes the same rate against everyone, so a favourable schedule inflates it.
Are ties included?
They are excluded from both the wins and the denominator on these pages, which is the convention in most leagues that record ties.
