A savings plan is taxed at one of two moments, and the choice is worth more than it looks. Tax can be withheld from every interest payment — so only the net interest compounds — or taken once at maturity on the accumulated interest, letting the gross interest keep working until the end.
Both pages use the same inputs: monthly deposit, annual rate, term in months and tax rate. Running them side by side shows the cost of paying early, which is usually a few hundredths of a percent a year but easy to quantify.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is better, tax each month or tax at maturity?
At the same rate, tax at maturity. The tax money stays invested until the end, so it earns interest too; the gap widens with the term and the rate.
Why do the two results differ by so little?
Because the tax applies only to interest, not to the deposits. On 500,000 a month at 3.5 % for a year the difference is around 160 in the local currency.
Does the calculator include the tax-free allowance?
No. It applies the rate you enter to the whole interest amount. If your country exempts a threshold, subtract it before entering the effective rate.
