Age Calculator

Since June 2023, South Korea's official age standard has been unified to "international age". International age is the global standard age calculation based on date of birth and whether the birthday has passed.

Enter only your date of birth to see both your international (full) age and Korean counting age based on today's date. Useful when signing contracts or verifying legal age.

For example, for someone born on January 1, 2000, once their birthday has passed, their full age is one year less than their counting age.

Age Calculator Calculation Method

International age is calculated as "current year − birth year" if the birthday has passed, or that value minus 1 if it has not.

Full age: 0 Years
Korean age: 0 Years

About This Calculator

An age calculator works out exactly how old someone is in years, months and days from their date of birth. It also reports the Korean age convention, useful for anyone interacting with Korean cultural or administrative contexts.

Enter the date of birth to get the international age (your birthday-based age) and the Korean age for today.

Age is not one number: the international standard counts completed years, Korean traditional age added a year at birth, and the full-age system used in law since June 2023 counts from the birth date. On a birthday the traditional figure is one year higher, and for anyone born late in the calendar year the gap widens to two years.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is international age calculated?

It is the number of completed years since your birth date: the count increases only on your birthday. Someone born on 1 June 1990 turns 35 on 1 June 2025.

What is Korean age?

In the traditional Korean system a person is 1 year old at birth and gains a year every 1 January, so everyone born in the same year shares an age. South Korea abolished the system for official documents in June 2023, but it is still used socially.

How do I get an exact age in days?

Subtract the birth date from the current date and let the calculator handle leap days. A person born on 29 February legally reaches the next age on 28 February or 1 March, depending on the jurisdiction.

What is the difference between full age and counting age?

Full age counts completed years and is used in contracts, law and medicine. Counting age made everyone one year old at birth and added a year on 1 January. Korea abolished counting age for official purposes in June 2023.
